Natural beauty. Cinematic moments. No stress.
Thinking about ditching the big wedding and doing things your own way? Eloping in Ireland might just be the perfect call.
As an Irish wedding and elopement photographer, I get to see this island through the lens of love — wild coastlines, mossy ruins, misty mountains, and golden-hour light that’ll make your heart stop. And the best part? It’s not about stiff poses or rushing timelines — it’s about slowing down, being present, and having space to just be yourselves.
Here are some of my absolute favourite places to elope in Ireland — locations that feel like they were made for cinematic, emotional moments.
1. The Cliffs of Moher – Co. Clare
It’s hard to top this spot for drama. Towering cliffs, crashing waves, and open skies — it’s iconic for a reason. Early mornings or golden sunsets are best to beat the crowds and get that soft, magical light.
Vibe: Windswept, powerful, raw and unforgettable.
Pro tip: Bring layers — the weather changes fast up here.
2. Doolin & Doonagore Castle – Co. Clare
Just down the road from the cliffs, Doolin is a colourful little village full of charm. Doonagore Castle nearby makes for a dreamy backdrop — think Irish fairytale with Atlantic views.
Vibe: Rustic, peaceful, beautifully Irish.
Why I love it: You get the best of both — ocean views and a romantic castle, all within a few minutes of each other.
3. Wicklow Mountains & Glendalough – Co. Wicklow
If you're into forest trails, ancient ruins, and misty lakes — this is your place. Glendalough is steeped in history and tucked in a valley surrounded by epic hills. A perfect spot for quiet vows with nature all around you.
Vibe: Moody, magical, woodland escape.
Bonus: It’s close to Dublin but feels a world away.
4. The Dingle Peninsula – Co. Kerry
Dingle is one of those places that just feels special. Wild coastline, old stone cottages, and narrow country roads that lead to hidden gems. Slea Head at golden hour is pure cinematic magic.
Vibe: Laid-back, scenic, full of character.
Pro tip: End the day with a pint in a pub with live trad music.
5. Killarney National Park – Co. Kerry
If you want a mix of lush landscapes, quiet lakes, and old abbeys or castles, this place has it all. It’s ideal for couples who want something beautiful and a bit more accessible.
Vibe: Lush, timeless, full of texture and story.
Bonus: Horse and carriage options if you want something truly romantic.
6. Achill Island – Co. Mayo
Achill is raw, windswept, and untouched. If you’re the kind of couple who wants to hike to your ceremony spot, feel the wind in your face, and run barefoot on the beach — this one’s for you.
Vibe: Wild, remote, completely free.
My favourite: Keem Bay — white sand, turquoise water, and usually nobody around.
7. Connemara – Co. Galway
Connemara has a wildness that’s hard to describe. Boglands, mountains, old stone walls, quiet lakes — it feels like stepping into another time. Perfect if you want a remote, meaningful experience with no fuss.
Vibe: Earthy, soulful, poetic.
Great for: Cinematic storytelling and natural, unposed photos.
8. An Irish Castle Elopement
You don’t need a crowd to feel like royalty. Whether it’s a luxury stay like Ashford Castle or a moody ruin like Dunluce in Northern Ireland, eloping at a castle makes for some seriously stunning photos.
Vibe: Historic, romantic, fairytale vibes.
Pro tip: Some castles offer private elopement packages — ask me if you want help choosing one!
9. The Giant’s Causeway & Coastal Route – Co. Antrim
For something a bit different, head north. The hexagonal rock formations of Giant’s Causeway are surreal, and the nearby coastlines offer dramatic cliffs, ruins, and the iconic Dark Hedges for moody portraits.
Vibe: Mythical, cinematic, unique.
Best for: Adventurous couples who don’t mind a bit of wind and wild.
Final Thoughts
Eloping in Ireland isn’t about checking off a list of locations — it’s about slowing down, finding a place that speaks to your soul, and making space for real moments. My approach to photographing elopements is relaxed and natural. I’ll give gentle direction when needed, but mostly I let you be you. Whether that’s barefoot on a beach or wrapped in a blanket on a cliffside, we’ll create something honest and beautiful together.
If you're thinking about eloping in Ireland and want help with planning, finding the perfect location, or just want someone to make it feel easy and enjoyable — I’d love to chat.
